New Season News Coming March 24

Curtain Players will announce its 2017-2018 lineup one month from today, Friday March 24, at opening night of Rabbit Hole. It will be the community theatre company’s 55th season.

The Curtain Players Board of Directors develops its new season from recommendations of the selection committee that filed its report with the board at the February 13 meeting. The selection committee – president and artistic advisory committee chair Jill Taylor, Lindsey Fisher, Brian Henry, Jane Mowder, and Drew Washburn – first convened in the fall, accepting director applications and script suggestions through an October 21 deadline. Committee members in the months since completed interviews with more than a dozen applicants, then reviewed applicants’ proposals and read their suggested scripts.

The board at its December meeting approved a provisional Season 55 calendar for six productions between September 2017 and May 2018.

With one exception, Curtain Players productions in 2017-2018 are again staged for eight performances over three weekends on the Friday-Saturday/Friday-Saturday-Sunday/Friday-Saturday-Sunday platform. Curtain times on Friday and Saturdays are 8 PM; on Sundays, 2 PM.

The one exception is SHOW 5 which, to avoid conflict with the Easter observance, will have matinee performances on its first and third Sundays.

The 2017-2018 production dates:

SHOW 1: September 8-24

SHOW 2: October 20-November 5

SHOW 3: December 1-17

SHOW 4: February 9-25

SHOW 5: March 23-April 8

SHOW 6: May 4-20

Board members are now setting script reviews, auditions, Set Build Saturdays, Curtain Panels audience talk backs, as well as other administrative, operations, education, and volunteer initiatives related to productions. Adjustments may be made to the performance schedule as all factors for the theatre's operations in 2017-2018 are finalized in coming weeks.
