Betty Peters, this one’s for you.

The Curtain Players Board of Directors is dedicating the community theatre company’s 2017-18 season in memory of Betty Peters. The longtime volunteer died July 16, 2017. She was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year and was in chemotherapy while recovering from surgery.

Curtain Players also has established a fund in Betty’s name to raise funds for the theatre’s archives program, a project she believed important and loved. Contributions may be mailed to: The Betty Peters Fund, Curtain Players, PO Box 1143, Westerville OH 43086.

Betty was familiar to Players patrons and to those in the central Ohio theatre community which she generously supported.

For many years Betty handled the box office and reservations line with a uniquely personal touch. The theatre community was part of Betty’s family, and nothing made her happier than taking care of her family.

A lover of language, Betty frequently served as rehearsal assistant, watching scripts and providing detailed line notes (and encouragement) to guarantee actors were word perfect in their deliveries. In the audience, her laugh was pure, joyful, and infectious.

As archivists, Betty and husband Mark were go-to sources for Curtain Players history and materials. Betty compiled scrapbooks and digital records, preserving records of past seasons and her favorite shows. For newer Players, Betty and her knowledge of this history was an important asset.

Betty and Mark have been honored by Curtain Players with its Richard D. Near and Volunteer of the Year awards, and by The Ohio State University Department of Theatre with its Joseph F. Scharrer Phantom of the Theatre Award. Betty was a recipient of the Ohio Community Theatre Association Spirit Award for the Central Region, and this year Betty and Mark were inducted into the OCTA Hall of Fame.
