House Staff Call for 'Simply Staged'
Posted: Monday, January 1, 2018, 11:57am
The Curtain Players annual readers theatre event Simply Staged runs Thursday-Saturday January 11-13 at the 5691 Harlem Road playhouse, and volunteers are needed to be house managers, ushers, parking lot attendants, and concession clerks.
Volunteers may sign up for performances, scheduled for at 8 o'clock each evening, by e-mailing Debb Miller at email@example.com.
Miller is the board member in charge of the theatre’s volunteer program.
Curtain Players welcomes Actors' Theatre of Columbus and The Tipping Point Theatre Company to present this special event featuring three full-length works by American playwright Edward Albee.
Simply Staged: Albee Fest has each theatre company presenting for audiences a staged reading of an Albee play each night: Seascape from Actors' Theatre on Thursday January 11; Everything in the Garden from Tipping Point on Friday January 12; and A Delicate Balance from Curtain Players on Saturday January 13. The event is ticketed at a pay-what-you-want price. Click here to order.
House staff must be 18 years of age or over, with the exception of ushers, who may be as young as 16 years of age. Albee plays are written for adult audiences.
The house staff jobs are important ones, as these volunteers have the responsibility to be hosts to patrons and to be caretakers of the theatre at performances from before the house opens, during the performance and intermission, and until the theatre closes for the night. Volunteers should note that many performances last season at the playhouse were near or completely sold out.
Curtain Players provides job descriptions to volunteers ahead of time. Curtain Players also encourages those who have worked in these positions to return and to be guides for new volunteers, thereby building the theatre’s network of experienced team members. As a thank you, Curtain Players provides members of its house staff seats for the performance without charge.
