The Curtain Players leadership team soon will have a new president, a new secretary, and two returning trustees following annual elections conducted Monday May 21 during the community theatre’s annual membership meeting at the Harlem Road playhouse.
Members unanimously approved the slate of candidates presented by the board’s nominating committee: Heather Schultz as president; Sharifa Andrews as secretary; and Wendy Brinker and Sean Brinker as trustees.
Although nominations were open from the floor, none of the races was contested.
The two-year terms will commence July 1. The four newly elected officers join Casey Merkey (vice president); Debb Miller (trustee), and Jeremy Sony (trustee) whose terms of office continue until June 30, 2019. Booth Muller in his staff role as technical director is an appointed ninth member of the board.
President-elect Schultz is current board treasurer. With her election as president, the board is expected to appoint a new treasurer in July to complete Schultz’s unexpired term in that office (through June 30, 2019).
Active with Curtain Players since 2015, Schultz has been a director (Wendy Darling, Five Women Wearing the Same Dress, and Zombies from The Beyond) and an actor (Crimes of the Heart, the Skin of Our Teeth, It’s A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play) at Harlem Road. She for several years has led the season-end celebration committee, this season served as an artistic adviser, and is a familiar house staff volunteer.
Sharifa Andrews is new to the board. Andrews first came to Curtain Players in 2015 as stage manager for Harvey. She has been on the playhouse stage in Lettice and Lovage, Five Women Wearing the Same Dress, and You Can’t Take It With You. She is a regular on the house staff volunteer team.
Incumbent trustee Wendy Brinker was stage manager for two Curtain Players production this season, Lettice and Lovage and Wendy Darling. Her stage manager credits also include Five Women Wearing the Same Dress and, as assistant stage manager, You Can’t Take It With You. Brinker serves as bookkeeper for the board.
Sean Brinker was appointed to the board in late 2017 to fill an unexpired term. Now elected as a trustee for his own full two-year term, Brinker will continue working on the board’s website redesign and summer production committees. He is a familiar house staff volunteer. His acting credits include The Outgoing Tide, Zombies from The Beyond, and Pack of Lies.
President James F. Petsche and Secretary Cheryl Muller did not seek re-election to the board. Petsche leaves the board after four years, three as vice president, and the last season as president. Muller has been secretary for five years. Their terms end June 30.
The Curtain Players board meets monthly. All board members assume and share various and multiple duties and projects of theatre administration, governance, and operations.
