Six Curtain Players – one from each of the community theatre organization’s six 2017-2018 Harlem Road playhouse productions – received Audience Choice Awards during the Season 55 Celebration Sunday evening June 24 at The Old Bag of Nails Pub in Uptown Westerville.
Trustee Sean Brinker presented framed certificates to Elizabeth Harelik (Wendy Darling in Wendy Darling), Erin Haught (Honey in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?), Sylvia Gonzales (Babe Botrelle in Crimes of the Heart), Bronwynn Hopton (Lotte Schoen in Lettice and Lovage), Nita Dean (Carrie Watts in The Trip to Bountiful), and Elise Vargo (Queen Marie in Exit the King).
President-elect Heather Schultz and a company of Players staged 60-second comedy skits highlighting each of the year's productions before each award recipient's name as announced.
This is the third time in the last four years the awards went to all women. Bronwynn Hopton is a recipient for a second consecutive year. She received a certificate last year for her role as Miss Prism in The Importance of Being Earnest.
At each Curtain Players performance, audience members are invited to make a donation in the name of a favorite cast member. One actor from each cast, in whose name the most money is donated, receives the Audience Choice Award at the annual season-end event.
The 2017-18 Audience Choice Awards initiative generated approximately $1300, money that is designated for basic maintenance and improvement expenses at the Harlem Road playhouse.
The Audience Choice program will continue in the 2018-19 season.
