Curtain Players is using its brief summer break this July to make some capital improvements at the Harlem Road playhouse, namely restroom renovations.
When patrons return to the theatre in September for the On Golden Pond opener, they can expect to find new flooring and some new fixtures in the two restrooms. The specifications also include rerouting of plumbing, installation of new larger-capacity water heaters, and repainting.
Volunteers are doing most of the labor, led by Drew Washburn, with major contributions of both labor and expertise by Mark Blessing. The theatre's technical director, Booth Muller, has also been involved in the planning and implementation.
Curtain Players received a $2500 grant from Delaware County Foundation to meet expenses for this project, thanks in large part to the grant request written and submitted by Denise Dumouchelle. Money from the theatre's recent Legacy & Renew fundraising campaign too help cover costs.
The restroom refresh project is the latest in a series of updates made at the playhouse in the last decade, following such projects as the main entrance and front patio, the addition of an emergency exit door, the installation of new seats and carpeting, and the paving of the asphalt apron.
