Unless specifically noted, all roles are open to all regardless of race or ethnicity.

  • All roles will be played early to mid 20s
  • The characters are from the 60s, but are here with us in current time
  • These guys are humble, sincere, nice, and care about each other
  • They're surprised when their performances go so well
  • It will be critical that these roles are played "straight", meaning they are not in on any of the jokes

  • Frankie – The unofficial but de facto leader of the group.
  • Sparky – Jinx's step-brother. The jokester of the group.
  • Jinx – Sparky's step-brother. The ??? of the group.
  • Smudge – Smudge's step-brother. The ??? of the group.

Once upon a time, there were four guys (Sparky, Smudge, Jinx and Frankie) who discovered that they shared a love for music and then got together to become their idols ? The Four Freshman, The Hi-Lo's and The Crew Cuts. Rehearsing in the basement of Smudge's family's plumbing supply company, they became "Forever Plaid". On the way to their first big gig, the "Plaids" are broadsided by a school bus and killed instantly. It is at the moment when their careers and lives end that the story of Forever Plaid begins... Singing in close harmony, squabbling boyishly over the smallest intonations and executing their charmingly outlandish choreography with overzealous precision, the "Plaids" are a guaranteed smash, with a program of pop hits of the 1950s and delightful patter.

Michael Day (Director) is excited to be returning to the director chair at Curtain Players for Forever Plaid. Past CP shows he has directed include Early One Evening at the Rainbow Bar and Grille, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, Dial M for Murder, and Arsenic and Old Lace (the 2008 production). He is the current CP Board President, and in the past has also served on the CP board as both Treasurer and Production Manager. He's a computer geek by profession and the father of an adorable cat named Petey Fisk.

Chelsea Martins> (Choreographer) trained at New Albany Ballet Company with Amy Tremante until she moved to Brazil. There she joined the theater company Cia Nissi where she toured as an actor, but also had roles as a choreographer, composer, and dance instructor. At Curtain Players she has appeared in Present Laughter, Goodbye Freddy, Red Herring and The Secret Garden. She also serves on Curtain Player’s board.

Where

Script review, auditions, and performances take place at:
Curtain Players Theatre
5691 Harlem Road, Galena, OH 43021

Curtain Players offers an information session for each of its productions as a help for actors seeking roles, but attendance is not required to audition. The event is an opportunity for actors to become acquainted with the community theatre organization, to discuss the play with the director, and to ask questions about the audition process, rehearsal period, and production plans. Those interested in working behind the scenes are also invited to attend.

Curtain Players conducts open auditions for its productions. Roles are not cast in advance, and, unless specified otherwise in the role's description, are open to all without regard to race or ethnicity. Casting decisions are made by the director and a casting committee comprised of (at minimum) a member of the theatre board, a general member of the organization, and individuals of the director's choosing.

The audition will consist of several parts:

  • Initial singing audition - each auditioner will sing their prepared song.
  • Cold readings from the script.
  • The choreographer will teach everyone an 8 or 16 count of very simple choreography.
  • Groups will be selected to sing in parts.

Requests for an early audition for Forever Plaid must be made no later than February 08, 2026.

Questions related to the audition process may be directed to production@curtainplayers.org.

Rehearsals for our productions begin in an offsite location, to be determined for each production. Approximately one month before opening night, rehearsals move into the Harlem Road playhouse.
