Unless specifically noted, all roles are open to all regardless of race or ethnicity.
- Myra – Wife to Alec, mother to Harriett and Jenna. An optimist and a planner. Suffers from terminal bone cancer. Wants nothing more than to see her family happy and together. Her condition will deteriorate throughout the show, and will require an actor with strong physicality for the role.
- Alec – Myra's husband. A man who loves his family dearly and who doesn't always show it. Terrified for Myra's death, and unable to communicate his feelings. Music lover.
- Harriett – Older sister. Put together (perhaps a bit too much so), until she's not. In a stable relationship. Shares a love of music with her father, and his sense of humor.
- Jenna – Younger sister. A hot mess. Struggles with boyfriends, and her fraught relationship with her father. Prone to binging and purging, but tries to hide it from the family.
Nobody can ignore the fact that Myra is dying, but in the meantime life goes on. There are boilers to be fixed, cats to be fed and the perfect funeral to be planned. As a mother researches burial spots and biodegradable coffins, her family are finally forced to communicate with her, and each other, as they face up to an unpredictable future. Laura Wade's beautifully poised family drama was first performed at the Soho Theatre, London, in 2005.

Where
Script review, auditions, and performances take place at:
Curtain Players Theatre
5691 Harlem Road, Galena, OH 43021
Curtain Players offers an information session for each of its productions as a help for actors seeking roles, but attendance is not required to audition. The event is an opportunity for actors to become acquainted with the community theatre organization, to discuss the play with the director, and to ask questions about the audition process, rehearsal period, and production plans. Those interested in working behind the scenes are also invited to attend.
Curtain Players conducts open auditions for its productions.
Roles are not cast in advance, and, unless specified otherwise in the role's description, are open to all without regard to race or ethnicity.
Casting decisions are made by the director and a casting committee comprised of a member of the theatre board, a general member of the organization, and individuals of the director's choosing.
Auditions will consist of reading sides from the script.
It is not necessary to memorize anything, but familiarity with the script and sides is encouraged.
Every effort will be made to give actors equal chances to read.
Resumes and head shots are helpful but not necessary.
Sides will be made available through the audition sign up process.
Actors will read together with others in their audition group, and should plan to stay for the full audition slot time.
Requests for an early audition for Colder Than Here must be made no later than June 08, 2025.
Questions related to the audition process may be directed to production@curtainplayers.org.
Colder Than Here will rehearse 3 days per week, on average. The schedule will be built around actor conflicts, but will likely include 2 week nights and one weekend afternoon rehearsal each week until the final weeks of the production. Rehearsals will occur in 2-3 hour blocks.
